The machine design comes from the Beaumaris Instrument Company, Ltd., England and is dated 1972. The machine is known under the name 'Mills open compound' or 'The Beaumaris compound' machine. The performance specifications vary between 5 - 10 HP shaft power at 10 bar steam pressure and 350 - 500 rpm. The cylinder bores were originally designed for 2½&qout; & 4½&qout; x 4½&qout;. They can be adjusted depending on your own performance requirements. For the HP cylinder between 63 - 70 mm, for the ND cylinder between 115-125 mm. The stroke on my machine is 102 mm. Some members of the DDV have been operating their ships with such machines for some time, but they are still of English production (they are no longer built there). Other machines are being built in Germany and some of them will probably be sold as finished machines.
The cast parts have already been changed several times. The foundation and the crankshaft have been completely rebuilt and the stands have been adapted accordingly. The cast parts set in GGG design can probably be purchased at any time.
I recently discovered this film about the original of my machine on YouTube:
The son of the designer of this steam engine has created a page with original photos from the workshop of his father Victor Percival Mills:
