Last paint work - 12.2003

During the painting work in the winter of 2003, Emma was in a slightly heated hall. This meant that work could continue without being affected by the weather. Nowadays (2025) this is probably an unaffordable luxury for such a large, more or less uninsulated hall.

The propeller that came with the Hatz engine is still installed in these pictures. It has nice, large blades, but the pitch is too low for a slow-running steam engine. Before the first launch, I replaced it with a reinforced replica of an Elliot Bay sickle propeller. This did achieve a satisfactory top speed, but its small blade area meant that it was not at all satisfactory when maneuvering and especially when stopping.

Peter W. gave me the last layer of zinc epoxy primer from his container ship fleet. He didn't like paints from the paddle boat department ;-)
